• Register by Aug. 8 for the eighth annual Swing for Sight golf classic on Aug. 15 at Bliss Creek Golf Course, 1 Golfview Road, Sugar Grove. Check-in starts at 10 a.m., followed by tee time at 11 a.m. Dinner and prize presentations start at 6 p.m. The cost is $110, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, prizes and dinner. The cost for dinner only is $40 for adults and $20 for children 9 and younger. Proceeds will benefit Hope for Vision, a not-for-profit organization that helps to fund research on retinal diseases. • Literacy DuPage is offering a six-session volunteer tutor training course from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6, 11, 13, 18, 20 and Sept. 3 at the Westmont Public Library, 428 N. Cass Ave. Volunteers must be 18 or older, have a high school diploma and be able to read, write and speak English fluently. No teaching experience is necessary. Volunteers must attend all six training sessions. Tutors meet with their learners at a time and location that is convenient for both. • The Lombard AAUW used book sale runs Aug. 6-9 at First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St. The pre-sale is from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6. Admission costs $7, $10 with a book scanner. The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 7-8 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9, when a bag of books will cost $7. Admission is free. Sale proceeds benefit a college scholarship fund. The League of Women Voters will be on hand to register voters from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 9. • Members of the Oak Brook and Oakbrook Terrace Fire Departments will collect donations for the Fill the Boot campaign Aug. 8 and 15 at local intersections. • Montini Catholic High School's 19th annual Bronco Classic Golf Outing will be Aug. 8 at St. Andrew's Golf and Country Club, 3N441 Route 59, West Chicago. • The DuPage Habitat for Humanity golf outing fundraiser will be Aug. 11 at Klein Creek Golf Course, 1N333 Pleasant Hill Road, Winfield. Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon, cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner, raffle and awards at 6 p.m. The cost is $150 per person and $600 per foursome, which includes a welcome bag, lunch, greens fees, cart and dinner. Monetary donations for the Share Your Soles Foundation also will be accepted. Share Your Soles is a not-for-profit organization that provides shoes to needy people all over the world. • Dine Away Hunger, an event to benefit the People's Resource Center, will be Aug. 20 at several local restaurants. Participating eateries will donate 10 percent of sales that day to the PRC food pantry. Diners do not need a form or coupon. The People's Resource Center is a Wheaton-based, not-for-profit organization that serves 2,000 needy DuPage County families each month by providing food, clothing, rent assistance, literacy classes, computer training and access, job search assistance and art enrichment. The event includes 5K and 10K runs and a 5K walk. The cost is $18 for online registration; $20 for mail-in registration and $25 on race day.
