DuPage County briefs
Judge to rule on fitness:
A court-appointed mental health expert has found a former high school football standout temporarily unfit to stand trial on charges he murdered his 66-year-old neighbor in Lombard. Hubert "Boo Boo" Thompson, 29, is charged with throwing his neighbor, James Malone, to his death March 30, 2007, from the balcony of their apartment complex. Dr. James Murray said Thompson's mental condition makes him unable to understand the court proceedings or assist with his defense. But with proper treatment, he may be fit to stand trial at a later date, the doctor said. Prosecutors may seek another expert opinion. DuPage Circuit Judge Robert Anderson said he will rule on the latest fitness findings during an Aug. 27 court hearing. Thompson was a football standout at Proviso West and played one year at Michigan State.
Naperville man indicted:
A 25-year-old Naperville man was indicted this week on charges he molested a young boy and took lewd photos of him earlier this year, court records released Wednesday said. Grant M. Gambaiani faces predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and child pornography charges. A DuPage County grand jury indicted him Tuesday. Gambaiani, of 1535 Watkins Lane, Apt. 202, has a $500,000 bond set in his case.

After a spate of closings across the country, a new Starbucks will open at 8 a.m. today in downtown Roselle at Main Street and Roselle Road. "This makes it very personal to our village," Smolinski said.
