Crystal Lake man named outstanding volunteer
The Northwestern Mutual Foundation announced recently that James Kratochvil of Crystal Lake has been recognized as an "Outstanding Volunteer" in the company's national Community Service Award program. As a result, the foundation will present a $10,000 grant in his name to Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County.
Twenty-five winners across the United States were named in the annual competition that honors representatives for their outstanding service and involvement in their communities. Through the program, which is funded by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, a total of $265,000 will be donated to various nonprofit organizations selected by each of the winners.
"At Northwestern Mutual we believe being a responsible corporate citizen includes giving back to the communities where we do business, " said Ed Zore, president and chief executive officer of Northwestern Mutual. "Our Community Service Award program helps us achieve two goals. We recognize our representatives for their community involvement and we help improve the quality of life in the communities our representatives serve."
"Being a volunteer reminds me of all the good things you can do in your community and the impact you can have on youth. I have been involved for over 6 years, and it's been very gratifying to be able to serve more kids and offer advice and guidance to those at risk," Kratochvil added.
Now in its 14th year, the Community Service Award program is open to more than 9,000 representatives of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and recognizes exemplary volunteer involvement and dedication to charitable organizations and philanthropic projects. Since its inception, more than $2.2 million has been contributed to over 200 nonprofit organizations nationwide on behalf of Community Service Award winners.
