Briefs: Wauconda saying thanks

Wauconda village officials will present the annual Mayor's Community Service Awards at 7 tonight during Wauconda Fest. Recipients were selected by United Partnership for a Better Community. They are: Glen Kozlowski, Wauconda High School football coach who helped re-establish the area's youth football program; Moazzam Khan, founder of a voluntary student organization named People Educating and Cultivating Elderly, in which high school students help the elderly; Laura Yost, who helped with local fundraisers for residents suffering from cancer-related illnesses and organized blood drives and awareness campaigns; and Yolanda Segovia, a general assistance caseworker for Wauconda Township who started the holiday basket program and served the Wauconda/Island Lake Food Pantry for 27 years.

Last chance to win $1,200

The deadline to submit shopping receipts for the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce's Let Loose spending incentive campaign is Tuesday. Anyone who spends $500 or more at a chamber member business may submit receipts to be included in a grand prize raffle. Visit www.lakezurichareachamber.com for a complete list of members. A maximum of five entries allowed for single purchases of $2,500 or more. Qualifying purchases must have been made May 1 through Monday and submitted by noon Tuesday. Entry forms may be picked up and original receipts submitted at one of the following locations: Lake Zurich chamber, First Bank Plaza, Suite 308, Lake Zurich, (847) 438-5572; Lake Zurich Jewel, 485 Ela Road, (847) 438-7300; Lake Zurich Florists, 34 E. Main St., (847) 438-6755. Entry forms can be downloaded from the chamber Web site. Winners of six earlier $100 cash drawings and all other contest entrants will be included in the drawing for the $1,200 grand prize. That winner will be picked during the Lake Zurich July 4 Family Days Celebration at Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Road.

Lions help flood victims

The Mount Prospect Lions Club and the Lake Zurich Lions Club will collect cleaning supplies from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday for flood victims in Moline, Ill., and Quincy, Ill. Donated items will be accepted at the Mount Prospect Lions Club trailer at the north end of the club's farmers market, at the west Metra train station parking lot in downtown Mount Prospect at Route 83 and Northwest Highway and at The Lions Den at 81 E. Main St., Lake Zurich. Lions clubs in Moline and Quincy will deliver the donated items directly to people who have been affected by the recent flooding. Items most needed include brooms, mops, rubber gloves, flat-blade shovels and bleach. Other cleaning supplies are needed as well.

Free Long Grove concerts

The Long Grove Arts and Music Council will continue a summer of free concerts this Sunday with Chicago Outskirts, a big band jazz ensemble composed of women. The concert is at 4 p.m. at Towner Green in downtown Long Grove, at Robert Parker Coffin and Old McHenry roads. Refreshments are available for purchase.
