Briefs: Tuna Kahuna canceled

The current river conditions on the Fox has forced South Elgin to cancel its Tuna Kahuna fishing derby. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has closed the river to all boat traffic and it appears the river is only going to rise in coming days. Call (847) 622-0003.

Beaches still closed

For the seventh day in a row, Butch Hagele Beach in Lake in the Hills remained closed Thursday, due to elevated E. coli levels. Officials also closed Indian Trail Beach on Thursday because it too posted high E. coli levels. Water tests done today will determine whether the beaches will reopen.

Village raises sewer rates
