Weekend Clover Days helps veterans
During Clover Days Friday and Saturday, AmVets Post 245 will be requesting donations for the annual hospitalized veterans picnic.
The white clover, meaning "remember me," is the official flower of AmVets. Tt symbolizes the states from which the U.S. Armed Forces were drawn and the worldwide battlefields on which they fought. It is a four-leaf clover.
On Friday, volunteers will collect donations at the Cary train station and the surrounding side streets. On Saturday, collection sites will be at Cary's main side streets and roads.
Approximately 500 veterans from Illinois and Wisconsin will be attending the picnic, slated for 11 a.m. June 11 at Lions Park in Fox River Grove along the Fox River near Route 14.
This is the largest picnic held in Illinois for veterans. There will be food, soda, bingo, music, pontoon boat rides, games and camaraderie.
