Kennel club sets deadlines for shows

Fox River Valley Kennel Club has set May 14 as the deadline to enter its May 30 and 31 all-breed conformation shows and obedience trials plus junior showmanship. They will be held at McHenry County Fairgrounds on Route 47 between Routes 120 and 14 in Woodstock. Entry fees are $23 for each day and go to Roy Jones Dog Shows, P.O. Box 828, Auburn, IN 46706-0828. Various events: Four Paws Animal Foundation is holding a combination of Family Pet Contest, Bake Sale and Blessing of the Pets May 18 at the Hanover Park Animal Care Center, 1920 Ontarioville Road. Pets can compete in numerous categories for a $1 donation for each one. Included for dogs are cutest (male and female), shortest and longest tail, best trick and best costume. Registration (with or without a pet) is 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. followed by the pet blessing. Judging begins at 2 p.m. The bake sale will include homemade cookies, cakes, breads and other items.

At this event, pets must be leashed and supervised at all times. Overflow parking will be available in the train station parking lot.

Proceeds will benefit the foundation's adoption and rescue efforts. For information, call (630) 289-0478.

Agility Trials: Agility Ability Club of Illinois will hold Agility Trials May 17 and 18 at Creekwood Meadows, 232 Creek Road, Plano.

VST Tests: Rand Park Dog Training Club will hold Variable Surface Tracking Tests May 18 in the Lincolnshire Corporate Center at Milwaukee Avenue and Knights Bridge Parkway. Trial secretary is Terry Everwine of Barrington.

Dachshund Club deadline: The Dachshund Club of the Great Lakes has set noon May 28 as the deadline to enter its 65th annual Specialty Show, 16th Annual Obedience Trial and 3rd Rally Trial, which will be held June 14 at Alden's Kennels, 6810 Barnard Mill Road, Ringwood. They will be unbenched and indoors.

The first entry of an adult dog is $25 with $18 for a second entry of the same dog. Fees vary for the various classes, so it is suggested you call Roxilana at (847) 455-2196 or go to maryannefowler@earthlink.net for information and/or a premium list.

More deadlines: The German Shepherd Dog Training Club of Chicago set May 21 as the deadline to enter its Agility Trials on June 7 and 8 at the clubhouse and training grounds, 4925 County Farm Road, Hanover Park. Entry fees are $23 plus $13 for the second entry of the same dog for each day. GLATA deadline: The Great Lakes All Terrier Association (GLATA) deadline is May 28 for the Specialties, Obedience Trials and Sweepstakes to be held June 14 at Lake County Fairgrounds, 50 S. Route 45 in Grayslake. The entry fee is $25 plus $18 for a second entry of the same dog. Entries should be sent to Roy Jones Dog Shows, P.O. Box 828, Auburn, IN 46706-0828. Correctional Clinic: The German Shepherd Dog Training Club of Chicago's next Correctional Clinic will be in the clubhouse at 4925 County Farm Road, Hanover Park. Registration opens at 6:30 p.m. and judging at 7 p.m. Pre-registration fee is $5 plus $3 for an additional entry of the same dog. E-mail and gate entry fees are $6 plus $4, respectively.
