Wrap: Falcons' Nolan tosses 1-hitter
Khala Nolan threw a 1-hitter and Bethany Holaway scored the game's only run on a steal of third followed by a throwing error as Wheaton North edged West Aurora 1-0 in a DuPage Valley Conference softball contest on Monday.
Nolan (7-5) struck out eight batters and walked none in Wheaton.
Wheaton Warrenville South 6, Naperville North 0: Tigers pitcher Virginia McAndrews allowed only Diana Rechenmacher's sixth-inning single in the DVC game in Naperville. Katy Frey's first-inning 2-run single was all WW South needed. Brianna Wolf added 2 hits and scored 2 runs. Naperville North fell to 10-6, 0-4.
Glenbard North 6, Glenbard East 1: Also in the DVC, Glenbard North (7-5, 2-2) got doubles and 3 hits apiece from Jenny Blasius, Alyssa Jasinski and pitcher Hanna Santora (7-2), who struck out eight.
Waubonsie Valley 5, DeKalb 3: Catcher Becky Horton knocked a double and Jessica Lobraco hit a double and drove in 2 runs in Waubonsie Valley's (2-10) nonconference win in DeKalb. Pitcher Becky Randall improved to 1-4.
Montini 4, St. Edward 1: In Elgin, Montini (3-6, 1-3) won its first Suburban Catholic Conference game of the year on a 2-hitter from Lara Mangialardi (2-4), who struck out eight. Jenna Mahoney was 2-for-4 and scored a run.
St. Francis 7, Immaculate Conception 3: Maddie Blecha (4-2) earned the SCC win on the mound and added 2 hits and 2 RBI for St. Francis (6-6, 3-1). Jenny Eldridge also had 2 hits and drove in 2.
Fenton 4, Trinity 0: Sasha Molina's 2-run triple helped the Bison win their eighth straight game. Fenton (9-5) also got a triple and 4 hits from Deanna Vazquez in Amber Schwarzinger's (8-4) fourth shutout of the season.
Glenbard South 5, Batavia 3: Jill Trzaska struck out 13 and allowed 2 hits while Jess Fijolek had 2 hits, 2 stolen bases and drove in a run in Glenbard South's (10-3, 3-0) Western Sun victory.
Lisle 5, Sandwich 4: Host Lisle (3-8, 2-6) scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the Interstate Eight game. Jacki Todd (2-3) recorded the win, and Liz Todd went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Katie Harris added 2 hits for Lisle.
Benet 16, Fenwick 6: The Redwings (10-5) overcame a 6-2 deficit with 14 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make a winner out of Meghan Eastman (7-4). Courtney Makowski and Kaitlin Coari each had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs, Makowski rapping 3 doubles. Nora McGuire added 2 doubles and 4 RBI.
Hinsdale South 2, Morton 0: Carly Hinni pitched a shutout and Julia Katsaros had 2 hits and scored a run in the Hornets' West Suburban Gold victory in Berwyn.
Plainfield Central 6, Neuqua Valley 1: Neuqua Valley (5-9) went on the road and lost to its nonconference rival. Jenna Marsalli reached base three times. Colleen Hehman (2-5) allowed 3 earned runs.
York 8, Hinsdale Central 4: Gina Knudson's 2-run home run broke open a tight West Suburban Silver game in Elmhurst. Betsy Malone had 3 hits to help York (7-10, 1-2) earn the win for Katie Schroeder (3-5). Megan Vicino cracked a 2-run home run for Hinsdale Central.

Glenbard East 2, Naperville Central 1:ŒBilly Buchdahl (2-2) fired a 3-hitter for the Rams (4-11, 2-5) in their DuPage Valley Conference win. Glenbard East broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mark Krueger singled home Eric Zwintscher. Sean Garbarino drove in the lone run for Naperville Central (9-5, 4-3) in the top of the fifth.
Wheaton North 8, Glenbard North 0:ŒTrey Martin improved to 3-0 with a complete-game 3-hitter and the Falcons (11-4, 6-1) scored all their runs in the first three innings of their DuPage Valley Conference win. Glenbard North fell to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the DVC.
Benet 6, Nazareth 4:ŒMike Chmielewski doubled twice and had 4 RBI for the Redwings (9-4, 5-0) in their East Suburban Catholic Conference win. John Boyle pitched 3 innings of relief to improve to 4-0.
Lake Park 7, Waubonsie Valley 6:ŒMatt Kennedy's eighth-inning single scored Ryan Wegner with the winning run for Lake Park (9-4, 5-2) in the Upstate Eight Conference game. Mario Fearon had a 3-run homer for the Lancers and Brian Serrano (1-0) pitched 2 innings of relief for the win. Bryan Fekety's 3-run double in the third inning tied the game for Waubonsie Valley (6-8, 5-3).
Neuqua Valley 12, Elgin 1:ŒThe Wildcats (11-3, 7-1) notched their fifth straight win as Jordan Williamson, Geoff Rowan and Ian Krol combined for 6 hits and 7 RBI. Mike McKinley (3-1) struck out seven and allowed 2 hits in the 5-inning victory.
Lisle 6, Sandwich 5:ŒJohnny Welch singled home Billy Potter with the game winning run for the Lions (10-4, 6-2) in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jon Surber improved to 4-0 on the mound for Lisle, which won its sixth straight Interstate Eight Conference game. Jay Osika went 3-for-3.
Driscoll 4, Marian Central Catholic 3:ŒThe Highlanders (12-3, 4-1) scored all their runs in the top of the seventh inning in their Suburban Catholic Conference win. Kyle Sanders tied the game with an RBI single, and Gabe Tumlos put Driscoll ahead 3-1 with a 2-run double. Corey Eisenmann (3-1) was the complete-game winning pitcher.
Immaculate Conception 10, St. Francis 2:ŒA 5-run burst in the top of the second inning powered the Knights (5-10, 1-5) to the Suburban Catholic Conference victory. Carlos Rodriguez had 3 hits while Matt McMahon and complete-game winning pitcher Danny Muisenga (1-3) drove in 2 runs. Mike Pugliese and Jason Lombardi had RBI hits for St. Francis (8-5, 1-3).
Montini 9, St. Edward 1:ŒAndrew Brauer (3-1) struck out 10 and allowed 2 hits over 6 innings for the Broncos (8-3, 4-1) in their Suburban Catholic Conference win. Kevin Glennon went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Nick Malecki homered.
Downers North 7, Lyons Twp. 4:ŒThe Trojans (12-3, 7-1) scored 3 runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out the West Suburban Silver Conference victory. Dan Sheppard and Jack Lowry -- who combined for 7 hits and 4 RBI -- each had run-scoring hits in the eighth. Marco Diaz (2-0) won with 4 innings of relief.
Hinsdale South 9, Oak Park 2:ŒConnor Schomig, Gary Mayberry and Rob Folkerts homered for the Hornets (9-7) in their nonconference win. Connor Duckhorn (2-1) pitched 6 innings to earn the win.
