Oranger, pitching lead BC to sweep; Jacobs wins 2

Burlington Central's softball team completely shut out nonconference opponent Oregon getting back-to-back no-hitters from Erica Maisto and Mackenzie Scott Saturday.

Maisto improved to 7-0 on the year with the 10-0 Game 1 win while Scott (6-1) recorded her third no-hitter en route to the 10-2 Game 2 victory. She struck out 12.

Kayla Oranger had a big offensive day in the opener going 3-for-4 with a run scored, 2 triples and 2 RBI. Brooke Porto (2-for-3, RBI, run), Abby Morrow (2-for-3, 2 runs, RBI) and Katie Maleski (3b, 3 RBI) contributed.

In Game 2, plate efforts for the Rockets (13-1) were led by Porto (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Samantha Gruner (3b, run, 2 RBI) and Brittany Priest (hit, RBI, 3 runs).

Softball

Jacobs sweeps Elgin: In the front end of this nonconference doubleheader, the Jacobs offense backed a 1-hit pitching performance from Kara Arceneaux (4-0) with 14 hits. While Arceneaux fanned 11 batters in 5 innings of work, teammates Meghan Hough (2-for-4, 2 doubles) and Lizzie Andrews (3-for-4) led offensive efforts. Arceneaux helped herself going 4-for-4 with a triple helping Jacobs (10-2) to a 5-inning 14-0 victory.

In Game 2, Becky Wilson (5-2) entered the circle for the 5-3 win allowing no earned runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. Wilson (2-for-3), Stephanie Schmidt (2-for-2) and Lauren Arceneaux (2-for-3, 2b) came up with timely hitting.

Kelly Patchett endured both losses for Elgin (1-10). In Game 2, Patchett led the Maroon plate efforts with a double.

Hampshire goes 2-0 at Auburn Tournament: Competing in the Rockford Auburn Tournament, Hampshire (12-3) took home a 14-0 win over Rockford Auburn and a 10-0 victory over Rockford Christian.

Katie McBride (4-2) was the winning pitcher in both contests combining to strikeout 12 hitters while allowing just 3 hits, none in Game 2, in a total of 9 innings of work. The Whip-Pur offense was led by Paige Kent (HR, 2 hits), Jessica Kraus (2-for-3, HR), Megan Roadcap (2b, HR), Jordan Moore (2 hits, 2b) and Cristie Wood (2 hits).

Streamwood drops two to Fenton: In nonconference play, Streamwood (2-9) dropped both games of this doubleheader by matching scores of 6-1. Barb Posinger got the Game 1 loss striking out five in the complete game effort. Daniella Vida (2-for-4, 3b), Adrianne Pisano (2-for-4) and Posinger (2-for-3, 2b) led the offense. Kelsey Johnson fell to 0-3 on the season with the Game 2 loss. Vida went 2-for-3 at the dish, and single hits came from Pisano, Beth McRill, Delaney O'Malley and Brittany Jasker.

Huntley drops two to Marian Central: Simply out-hit, Huntley (7-5) dropped both games of this nonconference doubleheader by scores of 11-1 and 27-9. Deana DeBosschere suffered the Game 1 loss allowing 10 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits in 4 innings of work. Plate efforts were led by Jenna Mychko (HR, RBI) and Alexys Robbins (2-for-2). In the back end, Huntley had nice plate appearances from DeBosschere (2-for-3, 2b, run, 2 RBI) and Mychko (2-for-3, run) but it wasn't enough to overcome a swinging Marian Central. Colleen Kennedy was in the circle for the loss. Bizzy Levy got the Game 1 win for Marian.

Fremd 11, CL South 0: Unable to plate any runs, Crystal Lake South (6-5) fell in nonconference action to Fremd. Jessica Gable was inside the circle for the loss allowing 8 runs, 6 earned, on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts in 4 innings.

Megan Hardie (1-for-1) and Natlaie Andrade (1-for-2) had South's only hits of the game.

Bartlett at Wendy's Spring Classic in Ohio: Bartlett (11-5) had a tough day facing the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in Ohio to conclude this weekend's play at the Wendy's Spring Classic in Ashland, Ohio.

First facing Elyria, the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but three late runs from Elyria gave it the edge over Bartlett. Callie Dennison took the loss allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out five in the complete game effort.

"Callie did an excellent job for us," said coach Jim Wolfsmith. "She had a real strong outing against a very tough team."

Rachel Anello led the Bartlett offense with a 2-run home run.

Facing last year's National Gatorade Player of the Year in North Canton Hoover (Ohio) pitcher Jessica Simpson minus both Lauren Wydra and Elizabeth Kay, Bartlett kept it close but lost 3-0 in the end.

Kay was injured prior to the second game, though Wolfsmith cited medical privacy laws in not disclosing the nature of the injury.

JV pitcher Heather Motz came up to toss a nice game for the Hawks allowing 3 runs on 4 hits going the distance.

"Motz came up from JV and 4-hit one of Ohio's best softball teams," said Wolfsmith. "She did an outstanding job."

Simpson 1-hit the Bartlett offense.

"We played extremely well against to high quality opponents," Wolfsmith said. "This was a great experience for our girls. We learned a lot about ourselves, and we hope to bring it with us through the remainder of the season.

"I'm very proud of the way the girls played. They played together as a team."

Baseball

Neuqua Valley 2, South Elgin 0: Despite a quality start from Josh Myers (5 IP, 3 hits, one earned run, 5 strikeouts), South Elgin (5-5, 5-5) dropped this Upstate Eight Conference contest as Myers was out-pitched by Neuqua's Ian Krol. Krol completed 5 innings of no-hit baseball before the game was called due to weather.

Westminster Christian sweeps Chicago Christian: Westminster Christian (11-3-1, 5-0) picked up consecutive shutouts No. 3 and 4 in Private School League action sweeping Chicago Christian by scores of 10-0 and 11-0.

Casey Schuring got the Game 1 win allowing 2 hits while striking out three in 4 innings of work. A home run shy of the cycle, Tyler Beachler led the offense going 3-for-3 with a single, a double, a triple and 3 RBI. Cory Hodge (3-for-4, 2b, RBI), Ben Palmer (2b, 2 RBI), Carter Ward (2b, RBI), Schuring (2b, 2-for-4) and Ted Grossman (2b) contributed.

Palmer (3-1) pitched a complete game 2-hitter for the Game 2 win striking out ten. The Warrior offense continued to pound them out led by Brandon Siewert (3-for-4, 2b, RBI), Palmer (2b, 2 RBI), Ward (3b, RBI), Schuring (2-for-5, 2b, RBI), Hodge (2b, RBI) and Zack Holmer (2-for-4, RBI).

West Aurora 18, Elgin 7: Despite a 7-run first inning, Elgin (3-6) dropped this nonconference meeting in five innings. Adam Jazwiec took the loss, while offensive efforts were led by Ben Stone (2 hits, 2b, 2 RBI) and Sergio Fuentes (2b, 2 RBI).

Woodstock 8, CL South 5: Crystal Lake South (6-4, 0-1) took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning, but fell behind and couldn't bounce back in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division loss. Ian Gardeck was on the mound allowing 4 runs on one hit while striking out six.

Huntley 9, Grayslake North 1: With a solid outing on the mound from Tanner Funke (5-1), Huntley (11-5, 1-0) picked up its first Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win. Funke gave up no earned runs on 2 hits while fanning 10 batters in the complete game. Racking up 12 hits, Zach Liebman (3-for-4, 2b, 2 runs), Elliot Swiatly (2b, run, 2 RBI), Nathan Sopena (2-for-2, 2b, run, 4 RBI), Jose Rodriguez (2-for-2, 2 runs), Nick Prokuski (2b, run) and Tyler Funke (hit, run, RBI) led the offense.

McHenry 6, Dundee-Crown 0: Only able to net one hit, Dundee-Crown (6-5, 0-1) dropped this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game to McHenry. Ben Rodriguez endured the loss allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits collecting 5 strikeouts.

Burlington Central takes two from Oregon: Behind a 9-run seventh inning capped by a 2-run home run from George Heller (4-for-4, 2b, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Burlington Central opened this double header with a 16-9 win, and went on to win Game 2 by a score of 5-4 to sweep Oregon in nonconference play. Mark Gorney helped the Rocket offense going 4-for-5 with 2 RBI. Drew Perly was on the mound to record his first win of the season.

Scoring 5 runs in the fifth inning of Game 2 was just enough to complete the sweep. Bryan Bell (2-for-3, 2b, 2 RBI) led the offensive push. Heller got the win allowing 4 runs (one earned) on 5 hits while tallying 8 strikeouts in 7 innings.

Prairie Ridge 5, CL Central 2: Prairie Ridge (8-6, 1-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back to open Fox Valley Conference Fox Division action with this 5-2 win over Crystal Lake Central. Matt Zagone (2-0) earned the win allowing just one hit while striking out two in one inning of work.

Mike Butler led the Wolves hitting with 2 RBI.
