Kaneland 7, Geneva 6
Geneva and Kaneland resumed their Western Sun Conference game which had been postponed from last Thursday.
The result was Kaneland handing Geneva its first loss of the season -- a 7-6 decision -- after the Knights fell to the Vikings twice earlier this year.
"Our guys battled tonight," Kaneland coach Brian Aversa said.
Going into the seventh, the Vikings (7-1, 2-1) trailed 5-2, but stormed back, taking a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Cory Hofstetter's 3-run home run tied the game at 5 and Ryan Adams' home run gave Geneva a 6-5 advantage going into the bottom of the seventh.
Kaneland's leadoff man, Jay Levita, stroked the game-winning hit down the third base line, driving in Mike Pritchard and Tyler Dickerson.
"(Levita) has been ripping the ball all series," Aversa said.
Jody Henningson, Pritchard and Dickerson each finished with 2 hits for Kaneland (1-2, 3-3).
For Geneva, Justin Doty hit a home run and finished with a pair of hits.
St. Charles North 11, East Aurora 1: Sam Weinberg stole 3 bases and scored 3 runs for the North Stars (5-3, 1-0). Ryan Richardson and Zach Hirsch both scored a pair of runs and on the mound, Ryan Johansen picked up the win.
Wheaton North 11, West Aurora 3:ŒThe host Falcons (6-1, 1-0) broke out to a 6-2 lead in the second inning of their DuPage Valley Conference victory. Matt Palackdharry, Ryan Javech, Jack DeAno and Trey Martin combined for 9 hits and 7 RBI at the top of the order. Martin (2-0) tossed a complete game for the win.
Naperville North 4, West Chicago 2:ŒJake Naumann (3-1) was the complete-game winner for the host Huskies (7-2, 1-0) in their DuPage Valley Conference win. Jordan Tassio drove in the game-winning run in the sixth inning with one of his 3 hits. Mike Nodzenski singled home an insurance run.
Naperville Central 4, Glenbard North 3:ŒThe host Redhawks (5-2, 1-0) scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh to win in the DuPage Valley Conference. Pat Kaminska's single knotted the score at 3-3, and Marc Mantucca's won the game. Andy Pucher (3-0) was the winning pitcher.
Neuqua Valley 10, St. Charles East 6:ŒKyle Kalkofen and Jason David had 3 hits apiece as the host Wildcats (4-2, 1-0) won their Upstate Eight Conference opener. Hunter Pruitt drove in 3 runs. Mike McKinley (1-1) pitched 6 innings for the win.
Lake Park 2, Bartlett 0:ŒVito LaPorta (2-0) pitched 6½ scoreless innings to lead the host Lancers (4-1, 1-0) to the Upstate Eight Conference victory. Mario Fearon drove in a run.
Waubonsie Valley 6, South Elgin 1:ŒFour runs in the top of the seventh inning broke open a close game for the visiting Warriors (2-6, 1-1) in their Upstate Eight Conference win. Zac Volland and Trevor Romeo each homered and drove in 2 runs. Pat Murphy (2-0) struck out eight in 6 innings to earn the win.
St. Francis 10, Aurora Christian 7:ŒJason Lombardi went 4-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI for the visiting Spartans (6-1) in their nonconference win. Winning pitcher Dean Quaranta (1-0) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Hinsdale Central 5, Lyons Twp. 3:ŒDavid Kiyosaki launched a go-ahead 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning as the host Red Devils (3-3, 1-2) rallied to a West Suburban Silver Conference victory. Brock Piche went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Downers North 7, York 6:ŒDan Sheppard's two-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh kept the host Trojans (6-1, 4-0) unbeaten in the West Suburban Silver Conference. Sheppard went 4-for-4 while York's Luke Regole went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.
Downers South 11, Addison Trail 1:ŒAnthony Fiorenzi went 5-for-5, hit for the cycle and drove in 5 runs as the visiting Mustangs (8-2, 5-0) swept the West Suburban Gold Conference series.
Hinsdale South 4, Willowbrook 3:ŒThe host Hornets (2-4, 2-2) scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the West Suburban Gold Conference win. Nick Bryant (1-1) allowed no earned runs in the complete-game win.
Softball
St. Charles North 3, South Elgin 2 (8 innings):ŒThe North Stars snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth to remain unbeaten in four games this season. Amanda Engel picked up her second win, tossing four innings in relief. Brooke Jaeger was 2-for-4 with a double.
West Aurora 1, Larkin 0 (6 innings):ŒPitchers Sam Arenkill and Stephanie Becker combined to no-hit Larkin through six innings, when the game was called due to wet conditions. The Blackhawks (9-0) scored the game's only run when Devin Vaughn's sacrifice fly plated Jessica Medgyesi in the fifth inning.
Geneva 12, Elgin 2: Dee Phalon batted a perfect 5-for-5 with two doubles and a homer for Geneva (3-3). Brianne Simmons pitched the distance, allowing 6 hits, no earned runs, while striking out six.
Girls soccer
West Aurora 5, Rochelle 2: Of the Blackhawks' five goals Ashley Malmgren scored four of them with the assist coming from Madison Pickett. Raquel Rodriguez scored the other goal.
Batavia 1, Plainfield Central 1: Kia Gear converted a breakaway 13 minutes into the first half to give the Bulldogs 1-0 lead. Plainfield tied the game on a penalty kick in the second half.
Aurora Central Catholic 3, Hiawatha 3: Samantha Cowles scored a goal and assisted on both of Missy Talktington's as well. The Chargers are 2-3-2.
