Wildcats' Booden earns cheers with no-hitter
No boos for Jacob Booden -- only cheers.
The 6-foot-6 senior right-hander fired a no-hitter Friday to lead visiting Libertyville to a 6-0 win over Antioch.
The Wildcats got off to a quick start and were up 4-0 through two innings.
Lee Gough and Louis Educate each had 2 hits for Libertyville.
Grayslake C. 6, Richmond-Burton 1: Junior Kevin O'Rourke tossed 4¿ innings of shutout ball to lead the host Rams to the nonconference victory.
Grayslake Central is now 4-1 on the season and has won four straight games.
O'Rourke recorded 4 strikeouts in moving to 2-0 on the mound.
"Kevin had great movement today and battled through some long innings," Grayslake Central coach Troy Whalen said. "He earned this victory and showed a lot of character and effort. They swing the bats well and he made the pitches when he needed to."
Angelo Gargano had a clutch single that brought in 2 runs. Jordan Williams also had 2 RBI, as well as a double.
Softball
Grayslake North 11, Round Lake 1: It was a perfect day for Hillary Kuhl.
She went 4-for-4 with a home run and a triple to lead the Knights to the nonconference victory.
Grayslake North (1-1) broke open its 2-1 advantage with 5 runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth.
Sam Fletcher went 3-for-4 for the Knights and teammates Jaimie Breitweiser and Mindy Runge each had doubles.
In the circle, Grayslake North got 8 strikeouts from pitcher Carly Borders.
Round Lake did well to keep the game close for so long.
Prior to the game, while playing catch, shortstop Erin Steele broke her nose. That forced the Panthers to play with only eight players.
Erika Fragoso drove in Round Lake's only run. The Panthers also got 2 hits from Karla Muldowney.
Antioch 4, Libertyville 1: Antioch jumped out to an early lead en route to its first win of the season.
The Sequoits (1-1) were up 2-0 after two innings and added some insurance with a 2-run sixth inning.
Pitcher Jamie Villalobos got the win with 3 strikeouts. Offensively, the Sequoits saw Ashley Mysliwiec go 3-for-3 with 3 triples.
Lauren Colette added a double.
For Libertyville (2-1), Katie Larson was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, while Danielle Kaczmar was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Prairie Ridge 5, Wauconda 2: At Lippold Park in Crystal Lake, the Wolves literally knocked Bulldogs pitcher Sara Super out of the game.
Super took a batted ball off her knee during a 4-run first inning and was taken out of the contest.
Wauconda coach Tim Rennels said Super likely won't pitch today, when the Bulldogs visit McHenry for a 10:30 a.m. doubleheader.
Katie Born knocked in both Wauconda runs with a sixth-inning single. Born and Kate Martino were both 2-for-3. Martino and Rachel Hughes had doubles for Wauconda (1-2).
Zion-Benton 10, Lakes 1: On Thursday, freshman Shannon Cooley belted an over-the-fence home run, as the Eagles fell to 1-1.
Girls soccer
Marian Central 1, Lakes 0: Marian Central owes Lakes a big thank you. Its only goal was scored by Lakes.
Meanwhile, Marian Central goalie Britney Hull was impossible to crack. She had 12 saves.
Boys tennis
Carmel 6, Vernon Hills 4: With wins in five of seven doubles matches, Carmel edged Vernon Hills in nonconference play.
Carmel's No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Buchholz and Chris Butler swept Jingyu Lee and Eshaan Arora, 6-3,6-3 to lead the way.
Boys volleyball
Stevenson d. St. Charles N.: After a loss in the opening game, Stevenson rallied to win the match, 2-1.
Brad Feiger and Bryan Kessler led the way with 8 kills each while Matt Liwin and Matt Ockrim added 6 and 5, respectively.
Ockrim also had a team-high 6 blocks.
Harrison Kay had an astounding 19 kills for the Patriots. He also led the team with 2 aces on an 8-of-8 serving effort.
Meanwhile, setter Jason Giecek had 29 assists.
Girls water polo
Vernon Hills tournament: Host Vernon Hills went 2-1 in the Blue Pool of its own tournament, beating Highland Park 10-8 and Libertyville 12-8.
The Cougars lost 12-3 to Stevenson, which went 3-0 in the tournament.
Libertyville went 1-2.
Against Stevenson, Vernon Hills got 2 goals from Kelly Steininger. Steininger scored 6 goals against Libertyville.
