Briefs: Español Expo today

The Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Hablamos Español Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at The Centre of Elgin in downtown Elgin. The event is open to the public and admission is free. The event will feature ethnic dance groups, McGruff, giveaways, food sampling, an art fair and more. Ozzie, the Kane County Cougar mascot, will be present from 1 to 3 p.m.

Cary expo today

The Cary Grove Community Showcase today will feature 100 booths representing local business, community groups, area churches, village government and regional leaders. From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. the event will feature music, face-painting, creative bead art projects, identity fingerprinting, fire safety demonstration, free pizza for kids while quantities last, Chicago Storm players and dancers and visitors can vote for Miss Photogenic for the Miss Cary and Miss Fox River Grove Queen Pageant. Drawing for raffle for a free weekend getaway will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Cary-Grove High School, 50 W. Three Oaks Road. Call (847) 639-2800.

Baby play group

The Dundee Township Public Library will hold Baby Play Group, an opportunity for parents to socialize with other parents while their little ones play under supervision. The play group will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays beginning March 3 and running through April 7 in the library's meeting room. The event is free and open to the public. No registration is necessary.

Double duty

Brian Sager, the mayor of Woodstock, is doing double duty, this time as McHenry County College's interim vice president for learning and student support services. He succeeds Jim Gray, who retired in December. Before taking this position, Sager was as instructor of animal and plant science and economics, a post he'd held since 1990.
