Briefs: Train death called suicide

The death of a Schaumburg man struck by a train Friday in Roselle appeared to be a suicide, the DuPage County coroner's office said Monday. The 58-year-old man was killed about 3:30 p.m. by a westbound Metra train near Roselle Road. A coroner's office employee reached by phone did not release the man's identity.

Charges sought for teen

Streamwood police are seeking a juvenile charge of unlawful use of a weapon against a 15-year-old Streamwood High School student who displayed an unloaded pellet gun to classmates Friday morning. Police are sending paperwork to the juvenile division of the state's attorney's office where the final determination of charges will be made, Streamwood Deputy Police Chief Jim Gremo said. Elgin Area Unit District 46 has also suspended the Streamwood resident from school. Most suspensions last 10 days, district officials said.

121 drivers cited on Eola

Aurora police cited 121 motorists on Eola Road during an eight-hour enforcement detail Friday on the city's east side. Police on Monday said the enforcement was targeted at driving behaviors that have historically led to a high number of accidents along Eola, such as speeding, tailgating and running red lights. Roughly 80 percent of the motorists stopped also were talking on cell phones, police said. Police supervisors in Area Three, which encompasses the far east side of the city, said several more of these operations are planned throughout the year. During the overnight hours of Feb. 2, additional officers will be patrolling the city for intoxicated drivers.
