• St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn provided more than 150 boxes of food and gifts for 65 needy families and seniors on the west side of Chicago through the Cathedral Shelter Christmas Basket program. The gifts included special presents for more than 135 children in the program coordinated by Ginnie Judd of the Glen Ellyn church.

• First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton will hold a Kirkin' O the Tartans at 8:40 and 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at the church, 715 N. Carlton St., Wheaton. The service is a celebration of the church's Presbyterian roots dating back to the Scottish Reformation of the 16th century. Then Scottish people expressed their heritage by wearing their specific plaid clan tartan. When they were forbidden to wear their tartan in 1746, Scottish worshippers cut small patches of their tartan and concealed them as they went to church, and the origin of the phrase, Kirkin' O the Tartans.
