• Daniel Roman of Warrenville, son of Marcia and John Roman of Warrenville, earned the Carl A. Spaatz Award from the Civil Air Patrol Fox Valley Squadron in West Chicago.
The award is the highest award a cadet can achieve with the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force that provides teenagers physical fitness and aerospace studies and training in a basic military structure.
A 2005 graduate of Wheaton Warrenville South High School in Wheaton, Roman is a student at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, and is participating in the Air Force ROTC program to become a commissioned officer in the Air Force after college graduation.
At the award ceremony, U.S. Representative Peter Roskam presented Roman with a citation of his achievement, which was entered into the Congressional Record in Washington, D.C.
• Stephanie and Liliana Perez of West Chicago were named Students of the Month at Community High School District 94 in West Chicago.
The twin sisters worked a combined total of 1,000 hours helping do work in the assistant principal's office during the last three school years, including summers, by providing translation services and other duties.
School ambassadors for two years, the sisters also were asked by former principal John Highland to participate in a goal planning meeting by the for the school district.
They both have excelled academically and plan to study business in college.
• Alexa Scimeca of Addison, daughter of Tina and Tom Scimeca, placed third overall among 12 skaters in the Junior Ladies division at the Midwestern Figure Skating Championships in Rochester, Mich.
Scimeca will now compete in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships Jan. 20-27, 2008, in Minneapolis, Minn.
Scimeca, a junior at Addison Trail High School in Addison, began her competitive skating career nine years ago at the International Skating School in Addison.
