Tree lighting: The Prospect Heights Garden Club will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting event at 5 p.m. Saturday, in front of the Prospect Heights Police Station. Girl Scouts will entertain with holiday songs and Christmas carols. Roasting of marshmallows and S'mores for the children, home baked cookies by club members and hot chocolate will be available. Wheeling Area Chapter of AARP: The Wheeling Area Chapter of AARP will meet 1 p.m. Monday at the Pavilion Senior Center, 199 N. First St., Wheeling. Palatine/Inverness Arts Council: The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council will hold its "First Saturday" reception to meet local artists from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at Artistic Cuisine, 16 S.
