Church of the Holy Apostles (Episcopal church): The church in Wauconda will hold its Annual Auction Dinner and Dance Nov. 16 at Mill Creek Banquets on Mill Street. It will feature appetizers, a seven-course dinner, silent and live auctions, and dancing until midnight. Community Protestant Church, United Church of Christ: The church at 418 N. • The church will host The Joint Youth Ministries on Sunday evenings this year.

The Joint Youth Ministries is supported by both Community Protestant Church and The Ivanhoe Congregational Church. The group meets at Community Protestant Church, located on the corner of Hawley and Prairie in Mundelein.

The Junior High Youth meets from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and the Senior High Youth meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Both groups enjoy dinner together from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Congregation Beth Judea: The consecration of the 2007-2008 kindergarten class at Congregation Beth Judea took place at the synagogue Oct. 4. This ceremony is the confirmation that a child is now officially enrolled in Jewish education.

The Consecration Ceremony took place on Erev Simchat Torah, and the kindergartners were honored by taking an aliyah when the Torah was read. Kindergarten teacher Debbie Weiss was with the students as they accepted an aliyah to celebrate their "induction" into Jewish Learning.

Congregation Or Shalom: Sisterhood is sponsoring a Holiday Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Hawthorn Middle School North, 201 Hawthorn Parkway, Vernon Hills. The bazaar will feature such items as handmade crafts, jewelry, clothing and giftware as well as representatives from many well-known businesses, such as Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc. Raffles will be held for a chance to win items donated by each vendor. Crosspoint Church: The church, formerly the Fox Lake Baptist Church, 27430 W. Nippersink Road, Ingleside, offers a contemporary worship service with a relevant message from the Bible at 10 a.m. Sundays.

On Sunday, Pastor Chuck Vitel will be preaching from the Old Testament Book of Daniel. Nursery is available as well as a Bible-based program for children ages kindergarten through sixth grade during the morning worship service.

Awana Ministries for children, ages kindergarten through sixth grade, meet on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

High school youth generally meet on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. Junior high students meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays.

A men's group meets on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. There are various ministries for women throughout the year.

First Church of Christ, Scientist: The church is at 240 Park Place in Libertyville, which is across from National City Bank. Sunday services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday School is held at the same hour for children and young people up to the age of 20.

Also, there is Wednesday midweek meetings at 7:30 p.m. Here attendants give gratitude for the help and blessings that their growing understanding of God has brought into their lives. All are welcome to attend services.

Grace Lutheran Church: Grace Lutheran Church offers two worship services each Sunday. A traditional worship service is offered at 8:30 a.m. A blended contemporary service is offered at 10 a.m. Children's ministries for age 4 to sixth grade will be offered during 10 a.m. worship., beginning Sunday. Children do not have to be members to attend Children's Ministries. Communion is served on the first and third Sunday of each month. Holy Cross Catholic Church: The church at 724 Elder Lane, Deerfield (Waukegan Road. & Elder Lane) will host the Holy Cross Women's Club Christmas Remembered Craft Show. A special "Ladies Night Presale" will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, featuring complimentary wine, beverages and appetizer buffet. Admission is $20 for the Ladies Night. The craft fair, featuring handcrafted items, raffle, Mrs. Claus's Bakery and Santa's Kitchen, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3. Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit: The church is celebrating its 45th anniversary as a congregation this year, and one of the ways is with a benefit concert at 3 p.m. Sunday. The music will be provided by the Adult Choir and other musicians from the church, as well as "The Three Sopranos" from the community. The proceeds from the freewill offering are being designated to help alleviate hunger among the Sudanese refugees from the Darfur region. The church is at 30 Riverwoods Road, Lincolnshire.

• COOL Food Pantry is the largest pantry in Lake County and continues to see a more than 20 percent increase in demand for its services over last year. Holy Spirit collects hunger offerings and food offerings every month to support this and two other hunger programs. During October the church makes a special emphasis on food donations prior to the Thanksgiving rush. Your support and donations are appreciated.

• Volunteers are needed to help staff shelters and provide meals as part of the Lake County Public Action to Deliver Shelter program. On the second Saturday of each month from October through April, Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit provides volunteers through the night to care for the homeless. • On Nov. 10, you are invited to enjoy the gifts and holiday items of over 30 crafters presented annually at the church

• Join in a service of hymns, prayer and readings to give thanks for the blessings of family, harvest and nation worship at 10 a.m. Nov. 22 at the church.

Marytown, National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe of the Conventual Franciscan Friars: Marytown, 1600 W. New Life Lutheran Church of Lake Zurich: The church will offer a free car wash from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. The car wash will be held in the church parking lot. The members of New Life thought it would be a nice gesture to the community to offer a free car cleansing on "Make A Difference" weekend. No donations will be accepted. New Life is located at 910 S. North Shore Unitarian Church: The church will present the workshop "The Beliefs Chart: A Tool for Understanding and Change " with special guest Bob Williamson at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

This workshop will introduce participants to the design and use of the Beliefs Chart, and will provide them an opportunity to begin a Beliefs Chart of their own.

• St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School of Hawthorn Woods has created a mobile computer lab as part of its mission to improve technology at the school. A second computer lab will be utilized for keyboarding classes and lower grade computer activities.

In conjunction with the purchases of new hardware and software, the church and school will be redesigning its Web site, creating a wireless Internet environment throughout all the buildings, and setting up dedicated chat rooms for teachers.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School is on Old McHenry Road between Midlothian and Quentin Roads in Hawthorn Woods. Registration is open to the community (including nonchurch members). St. Paul's Lutheran Church: Join us Nov. 14 to help youth collect and package care items for military personnel and to hear from a panel of speakers about the needs of our dedicated soldiers. St. Peter United Church of Christ: Donations are still coming in for the seventh annual Autumn Auction sponsored by St. Peter UCC, 47 Church St., Lake Zurich. United Protestant Church: Families with children are invited to stop by the lawn of the church during the Fall Family Festival and Business Trick-or-Treat event downtown for "Bounce On In" from noon to 3 p.m. today. There will be a moonwalk at UPC for the kids, plus free coffee, popcorn and prizes. The downtown festivities include a costume and pumpkin decorating contest, hayrides, scavenger hunt and a DJ.

• On Sunday, the community is invited to attend a silent auction and catered luncheon at UPC from noon until 2 p.m. Don't miss this chance to bid on items such as antiques, collectibles, gift baskets, services such as baby sitting and lawn mowing, gift certificates and homemade pies, soups and complete dinners. An Italian catered lunch is available at a cost of $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for children. Lunch will include Italian beef sandwiches, chicken cacciatore, scalloped potatoes and Caesar salad.

• Nov. 4 is designated as Mitzvah Day, a day for its congregants to "make a difference" in the Chicago area. Chaired by Ronna Leibach, hundreds of people volunteer in a variety of programs geared to help the community in acts of kindness.

Projects will benefit the following agencies: JUF/TOV Uptown Cafe, Jewish Child and Family Services, Brentwood Nursing Center, The Ronald McDonald House, WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger), The Night Ministry, Council for Jewish Elderly, Jewish Family Services of New Orleans, The Fairy Godmother Project, The Brave, The ARK, The Haven, PADS, the Vernon Township Food Pantry, the Wheeling Food Pantry, Project Linus, Shalva, Inspiration Café, The Humor Cart, the Jewish Community of Yerkaterinburg and United Cerebral Palsy.

The collection drives kick off this year's campaign. They include: multivitamins for our sister city of Yerkaterinburg, Russia; paper goods, household cleaning supplies and first aid supplies for the ARK, WINGS and THE HAVEN shelters for women and children; small toiletries and white socks for PADS; nail polish and manicure items, playing cards, decorative soaps, hand lotions, greeting cards and stamps for the Council for Jewish Elderly; nonperishable kosher food; used cell phones for Shalva; coupons for food and household items; batteries, breath mints, Hanukkah decorations, DVDs, magazines, and books for Jewish soldiers; used computers; new or very gently used winter coats, hats and mittens; and much more.

Another special collection will be for Jewish Family Service of New Orleans, where there is still much to do. Beth Judea will collect gift cards from Wal-Mart and Target for social workers to dispense as needed.

• The Men's Club of Congregation Beth Judea will hold its annual blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 25 in the Social Hall of the synagogue, which is located on Route 83 and Hilltop Road in Long Grove. The blood drive is being held at this time due to the severe shortage of blood during the Thanksgiving holiday.

A photo ID is required when you fill out paperwork. Bring a state ID or driver's license and make sure to have something to eat before you arrive. Refreshments will be provided by Shalom Kosher Bakery and Life Source.

The group includes Bible study and how it applies to the lives of young people and Bible stories, songs and chime practice for children's concerts. Both English and Spanish speakers are welcome. St. Mark Lutheran Church: The church at 1822 E. Grand Ave., Lindenhurst, will hold a Holiday Home Show and Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10.
