Preschoolers can be screened at library

There will be preschool screenings available for children ages 2 to 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday at Bloomingdale Public Library, 101 Fairfield Way, Bloomingdale.

The screenings, free for Bloomingdale Elementary School District 13 residents, assesses gross and fine motor skills, speech, language, social and emotional development, vision and hearing.

Expert to discuss IBS

Irritable Bowel Syndrome will be discussed from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Itasca Community Library, 500 W. Irving Park Road, Itasca.

Brian Muska, a board-certified gastroenterologist, will discuss the abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation that are symptoms of IBS. He will talk about the newest treatment options.

Dinner and auction to benefit charity

Stepping Stones, a Roselle-based, nonprofit organization that helps women and children who have been victims of domestic violence, will host a dinner, auction and raffle Friday at the Empress Banquets, 200 E. Lake St., Addison. Cocktails and silent auction begin at 6 p.m.

Items to be auctioned off include Chicago Cubs and White Sox tickets, Bulls and Wolves tickets, overnight stay at the Lynfred Winery in Roselle and Eaglewood Resort in Itasca, a Rolex watch, fine jewelry, gift certificates and a vacation.

Learn how to start writing memoirs

A free workshop about how to write memoirs will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Roselle History Museum's coach house, 39 E. Elm St., Roselle. Personal historian Diane Dassow will show participants how to start writing memoirs. To register, call (630) 351-5300.

History museum needs your recipes

The Roselle History Museum is still looking for favorite family recipes for its cookbook that will be published in summer 2008.

"Cherished Recipes" will contain 400 recipes in eight categories. It will also include photographs and short stories about the cooks and their prized recipes.

Deadline to submit a recipe is Sunday. To send a recipe, e-mail the museum at rosellehistory@sbcglobal.ne or call (630) 351-5300.

Volunteer Day to be held Oct. 20

Volunteers are being sought for Bloomingdale Park District's next Volunteer Day, which will be from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 at Springfield Park, 269 Springfield Drive, Bloomingdale.

Volunteers will help with invasive plant removal, harvesting seeds from native plants, painting ceramic tiles for a mural, cleaning up the park and preparing planting pots for a local nursing home.
