Kids can take free airplane ride today
Children ages 8 to 17 can take a free flight in an airplane during the Young Eagles Rally from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at Schaumburg Airport, Irving Park Road and Wright Boulevard, Schaumburg. Seniors can try out for Roy Hobbs series
Tryouts for the Roy Hobbs World Series for ages 60 and older will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. today at Benedictine University in Lisle. The Roy Hobbs World Series will be Nov. 10-17. For details, call Jack Skryd at (630) 305-6399.
History presented with a musical flair
The 97th Regimental Band will perform during an Evening of Family Fun with an Historic Flair from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the DuPage County Historical Museum, 102 E. Wesley, Wheaton.
The band plays music of the Civil War era with storytelling. The concert is for all ages.

Club will brown bag for philanthropy
The Alpha Gamma Delta DuPage area alumnae club will hold its second annual Brown Bag Philanthropy Night to benefit the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 18 at the home of Sue Dunton in Wheaton. Grant to ensure class for financial literacy
The DuPage Homeownership Center, a HUD-certified housing counseling agency, has received a $10,000 grant from the Northern Trust Company to provide financial literacy workshops and counseling to transitional housing clients, immigrants, refugees and other individuals who are not connected to mainstream financial institutions. Weed Ladies offer fall creations for sale
The Weed Ladies Fall Show and Sale runs Thursday through Sunday at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville.
Seasonal silk and dried arrangements will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Runners can register for Cantigny event
Cantigny Park's fourth annual Veterans 5K Run/Walk registration is under way for the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 3 at the visitors center, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton.
The race is limited to the first 600 registering online at www.cantignypark.com. The fee is $22 per runner. The youth run is at 10 a.m. and the fee is $8. The parking fee is waived for runners.
