Couple held in six armed robberies in Lake and McHenry Counties
Two McHenry County residents were ordered held on $1 million bond each in connection with six armed robberies over the past year in Fox Lake, Antioch, Lakemoor, Spring Grove, McHenry and Crystal Lake, after their arrest by Fox Lake police.
Mark C. Kozik, 32, and his wife Heidi L. Kozik, 30, who live in an unincorporated area near Spring Grove, were arrested by Fox Lake police on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a robbery on Aug. 7 at the National City Bank in Fox Lake. Police allege that Mark Kozik entered the bank armed with a semiautomatic gun and committed the robbery. Heidi Kozik waited outside in her 2005 Pontiac and served as the getaway driver, police said.
After the arrest, Fox Lake investigators notified the Lake County Sheriff's office and police in Antioch, Spring Grove and McHenry, all of which had open cases involving armed robbery during the past year, according to police.
After a two-day investigation, police alleged that the couple were responsible for six armed robberies in six communities.
The two faced Lake County Judge Theodore S. Potkonjak in bond court on Friday. He ordered them each held on $1 million bond. Fox Lake police said that federal charges are pending against both.
