Cougars tryouts: Vernon Hills Lady Cougars Feeder Basketball for fifth to eighth graders will take place from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sept. 30, and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 4 at Vernon Hills High School, 145 N. Hooked on Hoops: Hooked on Hoops, a youth basketball club, will hold its Fall Wednesday sessions from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at Fremont Middle School on Fremont Center Road west of Mundelein. Boys and girls of all ages and all school districts are welcome to attend.
The emphasis of the camp is skills development. Players will learn the fundamental and advanced skills of ball-handling, passing, dribbling and shooting. The fee for the Wednesday sessions is $60, and sign-up is on the first day of attending camp. Players should bring their own basketball. Teams forming: Next Level Basketball Academy, located in the Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates area, is now forming fall and winter basketball teams for boys in fifth to 10th grade. Football
Flames results: In the third game of the season Sept. 16, the Lake Zurich Flames BIG 10 Middleweight team, playing in the TCYFL Tri-County Youth Football League, suffered a 20-6 defeat to the Libertyville Chargers.
In the first series, Lake Zurich's Gil Juarez caused a fumble that was picked up by Lake Zurich's James DeGeorge. But Libertyville had two breakaway runs in the first half. Camden Kuksa's run outside put 6 points on the board for Lake Zurich early in the 4th quarter. Kickoff returns by Tony Anagnostopoulos and runs by Steven Demmert and Juarez aided the field position for the offense.
Quarterback sacks were made by Jack Boliaux, Juarez and Charlie Spatoulas. Other defensive tackles were delivered by DeGeorge, Brett Blum, Kuksa, Anthony Tinaglia, Spatoulas, Juarez, Noah Ezsak, Brandon Arteaga, Anagnostopoulos and Colton Wagner.
Demmert, Boliaux, Spatoulas and Kuksa quarterbacked for Lake Zurich. Offense linemen Luke Yankoe, A.J. Trittschuh, Noah Allgood, DeGeorge, Mitch Zovnic and Arteaga kept Lake Zurich poised for a comeback.
The team is led by Head Coach Guy Boliaux and Offensive Coordinator Dan Kuksa assisted by Marc Allgood, John Wagner and Ron Ezsak.
Team members are Brandon Arteaga, Brett Blum, Jack Boliaux, James DeGeorge, Steven Demmert, Noah Ezsak, Michael Hagan, Gil Juarez, Camden Kuksa, Vinny Loverde, Charlie Spatoulas, Anthony Tinaglia, A.J. Trittschuh, Colton Wagner, Luke Yankoe and Mitchell Zovnic.
Softball
Fastpitch tryout: Northern ICE Fastpitch will hold an additional tryout from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 29 at Cook Park, 600 N. Main St., Wauconda. The 10U, 12U and 14U teams are all looking for several players. For information, call Rick Eklund at (847) 650-7910.
Volleyball
Fall camps: Sky High Volleyball will hold "Volleykids," a fall camp for Juniors in fourth to eighth grade Sunday evenings from Oct. 7 to Dec. 16 at the following locations:
• Sixth to eighth grade: 7 to 8:30 p.m., Libertyville, and 6 to 7:30 p.m., Prairie Stone
• Fourth to eighth grade: 6 to 7:30 p.m., Crystal Lake.
The cost is $120 per athlete for the 10-week sessions, which include 15 hours of instruction. Athletes are split into separate groups based on ability and receive a complimentary T-shirt. Sky High provides all the coaches. Each week athletes receive one hour of on-court instruction and 30 minutes of game-like situations.

Side Out tryouts: Side Out Volleyball Association, an area Junior Olympic Volleyball Program, will hold tryouts for boys and girls at DuPage Training Academy, 115 Alexandra Way, Carol Stream, on the following days: Boys and girls 10 to 14 and under tryouts will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 2 and 8, and girls 15, 16, 17, 18 and under from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 and 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26. A waiver must be signed by parent or guardian before the tryout.
