Round-up: Geneva no trouble with Rochelle

Kelsey Augustine opened the first game with a 15-point run with 5 aces to give Geneva's girls volleyball team an early 15-1 lead Thursday night in Rochelle.

The Vikings never looked back in their 25-6, 25-17 win.

The Hubs led Game 2 12-11, but Geneva (13-4, 5-1) scored the next four points and controlled the rest of the match.

Megan Odenthal finished with 5 kills, 7 digs and 3 aces. Jenny Pokorny added 15 assists, 3 blocks and 3 aces.

Sycamore d. Batavia 25-17, 25-16:ŒFacing an imposing Spartans squad, Batavia (6-6, 4-2) fell short on the road. Melissa Norville had 5 digs and Kristin Hoffman recorded 8 assists.

Yorkville d. Kaneland 25-21, 25-17: Maggie Yagen had 8 kills and Jackie Ream made 4 blocks for the Knights (2-10, 1-5).

Aurora Christian d. Westminster Christian 25-16, 25-11:ŒThe Eagles improved to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the Private School League. Tara Thomalla had 9 kills and Rachel Mertons set 12 assists.

Boys soccer

St. Charles North 2, Elgin 1: Mike Picinich scored a goal and had an assist for the North Stars (9-3-1, 1-1).

Geneva 6, DeKalb 0: Max Cary scored twice for the Vikings (5-5-2, 1-0). Dan Miller, Brian Holbrook, Shawn Sloan and Ryan Hogan all found the net as well. In goal, Greg Duff and Chris Cordon split the shutout.

Boys golf

St. Charles East 153, Neuqua Valley 157, Streamwood 176: The Saints ended the regular season 9-1 in the UEC and are 11-5 overall. Chris Niemiec and Neuqua Valley's Stephen Powers tied for medalist honors with even-par scores of 36 at Streamwood Oaks.

The Saints are tied with Waubonsie Valley with Neuqua Valley, St. Charles North and Bartlett behind heading into the conference tournament next week.

Marmion 157, St. Edward 162: Brad Winters of the Green Wave led all golfers with a 35 at Villa Olivia but Marmion showed it has better depth. Bryce Emory and Robby Whitehead both shot 38 and Luke Kolquist finished at 39.

Girls tennis

Geneva 7, Kaneland 0: The Vikings singles players, Kayla Fujimoto, Blair Selakovich, and Jamie Potts, all won all their matches 6-0, 6-0. Liz Bertrand and Krista Panko took first doubles 6-1, 6-0.

Batavia 5, Glenbard South 2: With her 6-1, 6-0 victory, Alexa Schofield is 9-4 in first singles matches. The Bulldogs are 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the WSC.

St. Charles East 7, Streamwood 0:ŒFirst singles Stefanie Youngberg won her match 6-0, 6-0. Khris Vaillarin and Lexi Baltes also won singles matches for the Saints (7-3, 6-1).

St. Charles North 7, South Elgin 0: Annemijn Koenen and Sarah Amalraj both shut their opponents out. First doubles Liselot Koenen and Andrea Gentile won their match 6-1, 6-0. The North Stars improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the UEC.

Rosary 3, St. Francis 2: The SCC opponents split the singles matches, but Rosary (9-7, 3-0) took two of the three doubles matches to take the win. Keyly Knechtel and Angelina Goheen won a tough first doubles match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 for Rosary.

Girls golf

Geneva 174, Plainfield North 187: Kim Connor tied for medalist honors with a 41 at Mill Creek. Trish Harrington finished at 42 for Geneva.

Women's soccer

Aurora 3, Kalamazoo 0: The Spartans (5-2-1) have not allowed a goal in four matches. Jenny Jarvis made 4 saves in goal. Nikki Counsell scored a goal and added 2 assists. Katie Speranske and Laura Wagley tallied 1 goal each.
