Ryne Byrne Festival: The Prairie Ridge girls cross country team knew it was going to be tough to keep up with Woodstock at the Ryan Byrne Festival Emricson Park in Woodstock Saturday morning. Although the Wolves did all they could to keep up with the Blue Streaks, Woodstock still placed first in all seven flights.

Prairie Ridge didn't place lower than third in each flight and the effort did not go unnoticed by Wolves' coach Kelly MacDonald. The Wolves had second-place finishes from Alex Ovington, Amanda Marwitz, Julia Mangler, Genna Hempen, and Alysa Bichler.

"Our goal coming into today's races was to try and run with Woodstock," MacDonald said. "It was good to see where we are against them and although we didn't get past second place, I am pleased with the effort that our girls put forth. Our girls are really challenging themselves and its fun to see them learning how to race."

Overall as a team Prairie Ridge took first place with a total of 64 points. Woodstock took second with 82 points. West Aurora placed third with 122 points and rounding out the top four with 130 was Huntley.

Billy TenBusch helped the Wolves with a first-place finish in the first flight. He beat out Huntley's Todd Farbiak (16:22) with a time of 16:08. This was a new personal record for this course for TenBusch as he was able to bring his time down by a little more than a minute from last year.

"I was just trying to stick with Farbiak throughout most of the race," TenBusch said. "(Farbiak) has a great finishing kick so towards the end I came out a little quicker. He was pushing me throughout the whole race but I was able to hit my personal goal time so I am pretty pleased with that."

The Red Raiders' Alex Beruscha (17:20), Matt Soling (17:36), and Farbiak placed second in their flights. For the girls' varsity team the only runner to finish in the top three was Alyse Williams (20:30), who placed second in the second flight. Despite only having one runner place in the top three, coach Dana Burner was pleased overall with how the girls ran.

"For a lot of our girls it was the first time running in flights," Burner said. "So we spent most of the time making sure they were in the right place at the right time. I think overall we are right where we want to be at this point of the season. I have noticed our time splits at the mile markers are going down and that ultimately will work well for us come conference time."
