BAAC: Barrington Area Arts Council is presenting "Magic Hour @ Horizon Farms," an exhibit featuring the landscape photography of Robert McGinley, through Oct. 12 at BAAC's Gallery at the Garlands.

McGinley, an artist, filmmaker, and poet, divides his time between Santa Monica and the horse farm in Barrington. In 2001, he started photographing and filming the pastoral acreage of Horizon Farms shortly after his father passed away. His father's last words were: "Take care of your mother and look after the farm."

McGinley photographed the 400 acres at dawn and dusk, a time he likes to call "the magic hour." The resulting images prompted the family to preserve Horizon Farms with a conservation easement designed to safeguard scenic views, habitat, wildlife and the watershed for the Illinois Fox River Valley.

The exhibit also features a special video installation entitled "Swoon." A high-definition video, "Swoon" is a moving landscape of the farm shot from the back of a galloping horse. The short video is inspired by the "Tibetan Book of the Dead" and the Greek myth of Pegasus.

BAAC's Gallery at the Garlands, at 1000 Garlands Lane, Barrington, is open 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Sunday. If you know what time your party is planning on visiting the gallery, the Garlands' concierges appreciate a phone call at (847) 7565-3000.

For more information about "Magic Hour @ Horizon Farms," call BAAC at (847) 382-5626.
