Lake Geneva Jaycees Venetian Fest: The Lake Geneva Jaycees will hosts its 45th annual Venetian Festival through Sunday at Flat Iron and Seminary parks in Lake Geneva. The festival includes a carnival, craft fair, water ski show, musical entertainment, lighted boat parade, fireworks and a variety of food and beverage items from local vendors. Computer-Assisted Genealogy Group of Northern Illinois: The monthly meeting of CAGG-NI will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. Using G-mail to Enhance Your Genealogy Process will be the topic of discussion. Beverly Smallwood, will discuss how G-mail, Google's free Web mail service with built-in Google search technology, can enhance your genealogy research experience.
Men's club picnic: The Men's Club of Congregation Beth Judea will hold a picnic for the entire congregation at noon Sunday, at Woodland Park, Route 22 and Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove. Activities include softball, volleyball, bean bag toss, three-legged races and more. The cost is $5 per adult; $3 per child; $20 family maximum. Wheeling AARP: The Wheeling area chapter of AARP will hold its annual picnic at noon Monday, in the Pavilion Senior Center, 199 N. First St., Wheeling. Bicycle Club of Lake County: The Bicycle Club of Lake County will sponsor a Singles Ride at 9 a.m. Aug. 25, Sept. 22 and Oct. 27 at Old School Forest Preserve, St. Mary's Road, north of Route 60 and about ½ mile south of Route 176, Libertyville. The ride is for singles of all ages interested in cycling. It is an easy 12-15-mile trail ride at a conversational pace of 12 mph, no one will be left behind. Meet at the trail parking lot, first lot on the left side on the one way loop road. Helmets are required. Socializing after the ride. Luggage for Freedom: A collection for the Chicago North Shore Section of the National Council of Jewish Women's "Luggage for Freedom" project will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9, in the Jewel parking lot, 1600 Deerfield Road, Highland Park. Gently used towels, sheets, blanket, backpacks, children's books and new toiletries and stuffed animals will be collected. No luggage at this site. The Luggage for Freedom project provides gently used luggage packed with towels, sheets, blankets and new toiletries to women leaving local domestic violence shelters. Lac des Illinois Chapter, National Society Colonial Dames, XVII Century, meets quarterly. Membership is open to any American woman, 18 years of age or over, who has been invited to membership and is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who lived and serve prior to 1701 in one of the original Colonies. ANAD: The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders offers support groups across the North Shore for those suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder. With national headquarters in Highland Park, ANAD is the oldest and largest nonprofit agency dedicated to preventing and alleviating the problems of eating disorders. The organization also focuses on public education and awareness.
