Assyrian Briani
3/4 pound ground sirloin 1/3 cup olive oil2 onions, chopped3 cups frozen french fries or steak fries, broken into 1-inch pieces (or 2 potatoes, diced) 1/2 cup slivered almonds 1/2 cup raisins 1/2 cup frozen baby peas2 cups cooked shredded chicken breast1 tablespoon ground Jamaican allspice1 tablespoon curry powder 3/4 tablespoon ground cumin1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper4 cups cooked basmati rice (use a little less water than called for so it is not sticky)Form ground sirloin into tiny meatballs, no more than a nickel in diameter. Heat a large, heavy skillet and add olive oil. Brown the meatballs in batches on all sides; remove with slotted spoon as done. Set aside.In same pan sauté onion until almost translucent; add frozen fries or potatoes and increase heat to medium-high, stirring until potatoes are almost tender. Add almonds, raisins and peas; continue stirring for a few minutes.Add chicken and meatballs, tossing gently. Evenly sprinkle on allspice, curry powder, cumin, salt, red pepper and pepper. Toss to distribute throughout. Lower heat and simmer 5 minutes, covered.
