Learn about Corrie ten Boom during Spring Salad Supper May 4

The Covenant Women's Spring Salad Supper will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave. in Elgin.

The salad supper will be followed by a presentation given by Gayle Haas of Wheaton.

She will tell the story of Corrie Ten Boom. She will share the details of Corrie's life as a young girl growing up in Holland in a loving Christian home.

The Dutch woman and her family later helped Jews escaping Nazi Germany during World War II. After about four years of helping the refugees and members of the Resistance, the family was arrested and Corrie and her sister, Betsie, were sent to concentration camps. Their father had died in prison 10 days after the arrest and Betsie died almost 10 months later in Ravensbruck concentration camp. Corrie told the story of her family during World War II in the 1971 book "The Hiding Place," which was later made into a movie.

Haas uses her story to teach the value and preciousness of all life even those who treated them so badly.

Supper will begin at 6 p.m. with the presentation at 7 p.m.
