Lake County's Leading Philanthropic Group Will Now Be Called Women United

Gurnee, IL (2/28/18) - Today marks United Way of Lake County's rebrand of their Women's Leadership Council affinity group to Women United, a change initiated by United Way Worldwide to further transform this powerful network of women.

Since 2006, Women United of Lake County (formerly Women's Leadership Council) has become Lake County's premier women's organization that leverages their passions, expertise and resources to focus on their signature issue - early childhood literacy. Over the past four years, Women United (WU) has granted $369,000 to early literacy programs in Lake County's most vulnerable communities including Waukegan, North Chicago, Round Lake and Zion.

"Women United is a vibrant group of women who have come together to share a common passion towards Lake County's children and early education. We come from all walks and stages of our lives to support the mission of early childhood literacy," Lori Cruz, Women United member and former Corporate Counsel at Allstate Insurance Company.

What unifies this group is a common commitment to lead by an example that inspires others to follow. WU members give at the Leadership Level with an annual gift of $1,000 or more to United Way of Lake County.

"We are grateful to have Women United at the forefront of our movement to ensure all children in Lake County are ready for their first day of kindergarten. This impressive group of women continues to transform communities through its growing fundraising and volunteer efforts," Kristi Long, President and CEO of United Way of Lake County.

Women United will continue to strengthen the Lake County community through philanthropy, leadership and volunteerism. If you are interested in learning more about Women United, register to attend an upcoming Wine and Learn prospective member event. A Wine and Learn is a small informal gathering for women to learn more about Women United and what it means to become a member. To register, email Janice.scarbalis@uwlakeco.org.
