Support group to learn about spinal cord injuries Sept. 30

The next Chicago area TM/NMO/ADEM Support Group meeting will feature speaker Dr. Erin McGonigle, a physiatrist with Northwest Neurology. Patients with transverse myelitis (TM) neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) and their family, friends and caregivers are welcome.

The Northwest TM/NMO/ADEM Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Algonquin Public Library's Eastgate Branch, 115 Eastgate St. in Algonquin.

McGonigle will discuss the importance of exercise for those with spinal cord injuries including physical therapy, fitness centers and home exercise programs. She is a board certified physiatrist specializing in neurorehabilitation. Her practice in physical medicine and rehabilitation focuses on returning patients to their previous level of function and optimizing their physical well-being. She is fellowship-trained in the management of spasticity, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and brain injuries.
