Panel to discuss 'The Case Against the U.S. War Machine'

The Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice will host a public program titled "The Case Against the U.S. War Machine" from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren, 783 W. Highland Ave., Elgin.

There will be a panel of local people as speakers.

William Koehl will talk about the cost of war, war preparations, interest on the war debt and how that money might otherwise be spent. Barbara Evans will talk about the U.S. military as the biggest polluter on the planet.

Mary Shesgreen will talk about the carbon footprint of war. Earl Silbar will talk about the big picture: What is the purpose behind U.S. wars?

The program is free and open to everyone. Light refreshments will be served.

Sept. 21 is the International Day of Peace. Elgin, which has been recognized as an International City of Peace, will celebrate it on the weekend of Sept. 22-24. This public program will be our portion of that weekend's observance.
