The Wheaton Municipal Band Celebrates Academia

By Gail Sonkin

The Wheaton Municipal Band gives it the "Old College Try" on Thursday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in Downtown Wheaton. Under the direction of Dr. Bruce Moss, the concert celebrates music that is associated with Academia.

The audience is invited to don their old College T-shirts or caps. Pull out your favorite college regalia. This is not a concert of college fight songs, but rather a concert celebrating music associated with academics. On the program are William Walton's "Crown Imperial March" and Johannes Brahms "Academic Festival Overture." What Academic concert would be complete without Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance?

Also featured on the program is Ken Goodman performing Viktor's Tale, from the movie The Terminal, by John Williams. Ken has been a member of the first clarinet section for many years. "Viktor's Tale is not a typical instrumental solo," said Goodman. "I believe that it will appeal to everyone in the audience. It is both lyrical and technical, and it has a wonderful harmonic flavor."

Don't miss the 8th concert of the Wheaton Municipal Band's summer season. Thursday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton. Bring a lawn chair, a picnic and enjoy the beautiful music.
