Canceled: ESO Bass Trombone Mark Fry to perform free ECC Faculty Recital Friday

Canceled due to illness: Mark Fry, Elgin Symphony Orchestra bass trombone, co-artistic director of Chamber Music on the Fox and Elgin Community College low brass instructor, will present a faculty recital at ECC at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3.

The program includes music by Beethoven, Broughton, Pilss, Grantham and Bozza, and features pianist Lannette Calhoun, ECC piano faculty, and special guest, Charles Schuchat, ESO Principal Tubist. The recital will take place in the Choral Room, Room H 122, in the ECC Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive. Admission is free.

Mark Fry is currently the bass trombonist of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Lake Forest Symphony and Chicago Philharmonic. Fry performs regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Joffrey Ballet. He has performed with numerous orchestras in the United States, including the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Orchestra, Chicago Sinfonietta, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Britt Festival Orchestra (Oregon), Sarasota Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera and Spoleto Festival-Italy. Fry has performed with the Chicago Symphony in Carnegie Hall during the fall of 2001 and the Houston Symphony during their 2010 tour of England and Scotland. Before moving to Chicago, he was the bass trombonist of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra in Honolulu. He is currently the co-artistic director of Chamber Music on the Fox and the low brass instructor at Elgin Community College. Fry has been a guest clinician and performed solo recitals across the U.S.

Charles Schuchat, tuba, has performed and recorded with the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, and Israel Philharmonic. He is principal tuba with both the Elgin Symphony and the Chicago Sinfonietta. He has participated in numerous music festivals including the Spoleto, Ravinia, Tanglewood, Santa Fe Opera and the Peninsula Music Festival. He is on the faculty of the Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University where he is the Brass Area Head.

Lannette Calhoun has been staff accompanist for the past 6 years at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. She is currently on staff at the University of Wisconsin, Rock County and Judson University. For six years, she was principal pianist with the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra and adjunct at Beloit College until moving to Illinois in May 2016.
