Wheaton Church to Present Handbell Concert April 19

Wheaton's Gary United Methodist Church will present its annual handbell concert on Sunday, April 17 at 4:00 pm. Performing the concert will be the church's four handbell ensembles, comprised of over 40 ringers ranging in age from 8 to 80. The program will include secular and sacred favorites, including "The Velocity of Love" (Ciani), "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" (traditional) and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" (Scrivin).

The concert's highlight will be the premier of a new arrangement of Stanford's familiar hymn "When in Our Music God is Glorified." This was commissioned by Gary Church in memory of the late Winfield resident Debbie Perisho, who was an integral part of the church's music ministry for a number of years. Noted arranger Michael Glasgow has created an uplifting, rhythmic setting that reminds us of the grace music can bring to us in both joy and sorrow. The church's vocal choirs, organ and piano will join the ringers for this final magnificent piece. A reception will follow the concert.

Ample parking is available. Admission is free although donations will be accepted.
