DAR Chapter Essay Contest

DAR Chapter Sponsors Essay Contest

The Eli Skinner chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades 5 through 8.

The title is, "A Colonial Family's Reaction to the Stamp Act". This year marks the 250th anniversary of the law that was passed by the British Parliament in 1765. It required colonists to pay a tax upon every paper document, including newspapers, and more. In response, American citizens organized to protest, saying "No taxation without representation!" These groups united-- to eventually form the force behind the American Revolution.

Students in public, private or parochial school, or home school are eligible.

Deadline to receive essays is November 18, 2015. For guidelines and information, contact Carole Komarek, Co-Chair, American History Committee 847-899 2308.
