Strong Start of 2015 for the Illinois Fencers Club

Illinois Fencers Club (IFC) members recently traveled to St Louis, Missouri to compete at the Daugherty Cup Regional Open Circuit and Regional Junior/Cadet Circuits and turned in an outstanding performance in competitive field coming away with five medals. IFC fencer Anna Paul captured first place in Division 2 Women's Epee and eighth place in Division 1A Senior Women's Epee. Isabelle Nasser finished in third place in Cadet Women's Epee and was eighth in Junior Women's Epee. Dave Swanson earned sixth place in Division 2 Senior Men's Epee and 11th place in Division 1A Senior Men's Epee.

In other events, IFC fencers also competed at the Super Youth Circuit in Rosemont on January 25-26th. Geeta Jhangiani won the bronze medal in Y14 Women's Epee and Peter Kulaga qualified for Summer Nationals in Y14 men's epee finishing 11th.

Also on January 25th, Tony Conrood won the gold medal at the 2015 Balcazar Division 3 Senior Mixed Foil at The Point Fencing Club in Champaign, IL.

On February 7th at the St Valentine Massacre at Culver Academy in Culver, Indiana, IFC fencer Dean Bradford came in third place and Dave Swanson took sixth in the Open Epee event.

The Illinois Fencers Club (IFC) held its Y12 and E& under (Division 3) Fencing Tournament on February 22, 2015 at the Lions Recreation Center in Mount Prospect, Illinois. This tournament is held every year by the Illinois Fencers Club for youth and seniors and includes competitions for youth and seniors in foil, epee and saber. IFC fencer Michael Romanov finished in first place in the Y12 Mixed Foil and second in Y12 Mixed Epee taking gold and silver medals for the events. Parker Wokwicz finished third in the Y12 Mixed Foil event, while Andrew Vold and Lyudmila Pennock finished third and fifth in Division 3 Senior Mixed Epee.

IFC veterans Bob Baldwin, Tim Glass, John Lartz and Dave Swanson traveled to Reno, Nevada to compete in the USA Fencing North America Cup individual and team veteran events. Tim Glass finished sixth in Vet-60 Men's Epee, while the IFC team took seventh place in the Veteran Team Men's Epee.

The Illinois Fencers Club promotes and teaches the Olympic sport of fencing to students of all ages and skill levels and provides a friendly venue for members to practice their sport. It is a member operated non-for-profit sports association that has been serving beginning, recreational, and competitive fencers for more than 40 years. The club meets in the Lions Recreation Center in Mount Prospect.
