Lake Zurich fourth at Early Bird

Conant/Fremd Early Bird tournament: Lake Zurich (6-2) settled for fourth place, as Kristen Walding led the Bears with 107 assists, 17 blocks, 8 kills and 6 aces.

Mickenzie Andrews had 17 kills and a team-best 25 blocks for Lake Zurich, while Kiley McPeek led the squad in kills with 27. Mallory Parsons and Allie McIlwain added 23 and 21 kills, respectively.

Mundelein (6-7) went 2-3 in the tourney. Yasmeen Johnson piled up 27 kills, and Madi Wilcox dished out 53 assists on 202-of-204 setting. Emily Dunkin delivered 12 kills and 5 aces for the Mustangs.

Grayslake Central tournament: Carmel defeated Libertyville’s JV for first place in the Ram Slam.

Grayslake Central (4-2) finished third. Alex Dahlstrom totaled 46 kills, 16 blocks and 13 aces for the Rams.

Anna Basten and Gabi Casper contributed 21 and 20 kills, respectively.

“We had a pretty solid day and took a big step forward playing as a team,” Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. “Our offense played well and we are starting to get cohesive on the court. I’m pleased with how we are progressing.”
