Glenbard students view mock DUI crash
Members of the Carol Stream police and fire protection districts staged a mock DUI crash scene Wednesday at Glenbard North High School to raise student awareness of alcohol use, particularly during prom season.
The annual demonstration, dubbed Operation Safe Celebration, took place in the school's parking lot, and featured student actors from the high school's theater department performing a scenario in which a student who has been drinking on prom night rams her car into another vehicle. In the scenario, two students die in the crash and others are injured.
Firefighters extricated students from the mangled vehicles and police demonstrated how they perform a sobriety test, making the student actor playing the driver "walk the line."
Officials from the police department, fire district, and DuPage County coroner's office spoke during the 30-minute presentation, which was viewed by students sitting in bleachers on the east side of the school.
