Graduates of Sacred Heart of Mary High School Invited to Special Mass

The graduates of Sacred Heart of Mary High School, the former all-girls Catholic high school that closed in 1987, are invited to participate in a special mass in their honor on Sunday, February 10th, 2013. The mass will take place in the chapel at Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights.

Sacred Heart and Saint Viator served as partner schools for girls and boys respectively for over two decades before Sacred Heart closed and Saint Viator went co-ed in the mid-1980s. Graduates of Sacred Heart have been welcomed into the Saint Viator Alumni Association, but the February 10th mass will be specifically for those who attended and graduated from the school that was located in Rolling Meadows.

“Sacred Heart High School has a very significant and rich tradition in Catholic education and the women who graduated from the school have gone on to great success in many endeavors,” said Saint Viator Director of Alumni Relations Jim Murphy. “We have received many requests for events to recognize and respect the tradition of Sacred Heart and this mass is an initial step in that direction.”

Murphy said that a group of graduates have begun work on planning the mass and reception that will follow. Anyone interested in being involved should contact him at 847-392-4050, ext. 259. “Right now we want to get the word out and make sure that all of the Sacred Heart alumnae get the date on their calendars. We want to have a big turnout and look forward to helping them celebrate the tradition of their school.”
