H.E.H.S. junior on national DARE board

Hoffman Estates High School junior Isha Jog has been selected to serve as the Illinois representative on the national Drug Abuse Resistance Education Youth Advisory Board for 2011.

DARE’s Youth Advisory Board was initiated in 2000, and is composed of 50 student members, one from each state. Students serving on the board are selected through a statewide search from hundreds of applicants.

According to the DARE website, the Youth Advisory Board provides graduates an opportunity to speak on issues impacting the national and worldwide DARE program and to advise DARE America and local DARE programs, as well as government and community leaders on drug and violence prevention strategies beneficial to youth.

The Youth Advisory Board also leads Peer PLUS Programs (after-school community programs) and supports letter writing and media responses, as well as role modeling and speaking at DARE functions within their respective states.

Youth Advisory Board members are eligible for the $20,000 DARE America Scholarship upon high school graduation. Additional information is available at dare.com/youthadvisoryboardmission.asp.
