Scouting Grant at Plainfield North

Grant (0-1) at Plainfield North (0-1)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last week: Grant lost to Crystal Lake South, 41-12; Plainfield North lost to West Chicago, 7-6.

Outlook: Grant coach Kurt Rous isn't sure what to make of Plainfield North. The Tigers lost last week to a West Chicago team that went winless in 2009, yet they return a Division I linebacker in Cody Lopez (Central Michigan) and senior running back Kapri Bibbs, who rolled up monster numbers last year. Bibbs finished with 1,556 rushing yards for an average of 7.3 yards per carry. He also scored 23 touchdowns. "They'll throw a bit to keep you honest," Rous said. "But mostly, they're going to try to pound the ball. We're going to need to control the line of scrimmage. We're going to need to attack them defensively and make sure we don't get pushed around."-Offensively, the Bulldogs need to take better care of the ball. Rous says that mistakes and penalties really cost his team in last week's loss to Crystal Lake South. "We were inside of the 10-yard line twice and came away with only 2 field goals because we were making mistakes like lining up off-sides. You aren't going to win too many games against good teams doing stuff like that."-A bright spot for the offense was the play of senior quarterback Leo Minne, a lifelong quarterback who played running back last year with veteran Justin Cokefair occupying the starting spot. Minne looked comfortable back in his old spot, rushing for 84 yards and passing for 91 yard on 5 completions. Senior running back Steven Niewiedzial also put up some big numbers for Grant. He had 113 yards on 17 carries.
