Violins of Hope coming to Schaumburg Library

Schaumburg Township District Library is proud to host a portion of the Violins of Hope collection, from Aug. 7 through Sept. 7, 2023, at its Central Library in Schaumburg.

Thanks to a partnership with Jewish Community Center, Chicago, you'll be able to view and learn more about six string instruments from the Violins of Hope collection at Schaumburg Library. These instruments were played by Jewish musicians before or during the Holocaust. All instruments have been painstakingly restored and bring a message of hope, resistance, resilience and unity.

Schaumburg Library is also excited to welcome and support two related programs. At "Footsteps of My Father: A Story of Courage & Honor," Pastor Chris Edmonds tells the story of his father, World War II hero Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds, whose fearless bravery saved the lives of more than 200 Jewish American soldiers in a prisoner of war camp in Germany. This program will be held online from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11. Register at SchaumburgLibrary.org/events to receive the Zoom link for this online program. And Schaumburg Youth Orchestra will have a special performance at Schaumburg Library's Central Library at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31.
