Carol Stream church to host outdoor Jazz Mass Sept. 18

On Sunday, Sept. 18, Lutheran Church of the Master in Carol Stream will host a special Jazz Mass at 10 a.m. outdoors.

Unlike many other "jazz" settings for worship, this is meant for complete congregational participation, as opposed to a performance in the context of worship.

Composed by Director of Worship & Music Michael Benshish, it includes jazz settings of well known hymns, in addition to the "Gloria," "Alleluia," "Sanctus," "The Lord's Prayer," "Agnus Dei," "Great Amen," and "Benediction."

Choir and praise band singers will lead the congregational singing, and a stellar group of jazz musicians has been assembled to accompany the entire score. It features Doug Angelaccio on saxophones, Gerald Bailey on trumpet, Jeremy Benshish on drums and cymbals, and Mary Halm on bass.

Bring a chair and join the church in this special worship celebration at the church, 580 Kuhn Road.

There will be no 8 a.m. service on Sept. 18.

For information, contact the church at (630) 665-3384 or churchoffice@lcotm.org.
