Northbrook Sports Center Skating School Transitions to Learn to Skate USA Curriculum
The Northbrook Sports Center Skating School is excited to announce its transition to the Learn to Skate USA class curriculum. The Skating School will continue to add a personal touch to its educational programs and talent development as it has done for more than 50 years.
The mission of Learn to Skate USA is to provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating. Fully supported by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speedskating, with support from Special Olympics, the Professional Skaters Association and the U.S. Ice Rink Association, Learn to Skate USA offers every student a heartfelt welcome, lifelong benefits and fond memories. Try Skating for Free
Take a free skating class to help determine if your child is ready for skating lessons. Try Skating for Free, a free skating class for children (ages 3 and older) who are interested in learning to skate, is offered on Saturday, August 27 from 10-10:30 a.m. or from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Three year olds must be potty trained. The free classes are open to children who have not taken skating lessons. Northbrook Sports Center's professional staff will teach basic skating skills and help determine readiness for class. Children are grouped by age and registration is required at nbparks.org.
Figure Skating Lessons
Group lessons are a fun, challenging and reasonably priced way to learn and improve skating skills. Children who can stand in skates without support are ready to learn to skate. Students of all ages learn the proper way to skate from professionals in a structured and supervised setting.
A new session of figure skating lessons is scheduled for September 10 to December 17. Registration can be completed at nbparks.org or at a Park District registration office.
Instructional Hockey
The Northbrook Sports Center's Instructional Hockey Program serves children who have little or no hockey experience. The first day of fall hockey lessons takes place between Sept. 7 and 11. Coaches from Northbrook Hockey League (NBHL)/Northbrook Bluehawks provide instruction. All classes require a helmet with a cage; elbow pads, shin pads and hockey skates are recommended. New participants receive a Northbrook Bluehawks jersey. Prorated classes are available, but registration must be done in person.
