Be a Super Senior with the Northbrook Senior Center

The Northbrook Senior Center has many interesting and fun opportunities for those 55+ in the community. The Senior Center, which operates out of the Leisure Center located at 3323 Walters Ave, welcomes everyone 55 and over to become a member and benefit from the amenities it provides. A variety of exciting programs are being offered this summer.

Thanks to Her: Finding Power & Inspiration in Your Family Photos: June 25. Join Kathleen Geraghty, author and former photojournalist, as she shares how her book, "Thanks to Her" came to be and what it all means. This is a story that began with a humble garage sale and morphed into a multifaceted research project. More than a recap of American history from 1900 to 1950, "Thanks to Her" is a metaphorical snapshot of women's lives during those decades. Learn how exploring your own family photo archive can add spiritual and emotional rocket fuel to the Heroine's Journey that is your life. "Thanks to Her" will help you tap into the collective strength of our foremothers, use it to amp up your own life, and kick your malaise to the curb. Remember: Yes, she did - and so you can! Sponsored by Comfort Keepers of Buffalo Grove & Park Ridge.

Barbara Rinella Presents: The Chanel Sisters: July 6. Join us for lunch as Barbara Rinella will entertain us with a dramatization of The Chanel Sisters by Judith Little. This is a new historical fiction about Coco Chanel, her family, and their many struggles. Lunch included.

Super Senior Day: Aug. 20. Super Senior Day is a convenient program for driver's license renewal, including Rules of the Road classroom instruction, safe driving techniques, Illinois driving laws review and a vision screening exam. The Illinois Secretary of State Mobile Driver Services Unit will be available for participants to renew their driver's licenses. No Real IDs will be issued at this event. An identification card can be obtained for a fee. However, if you are age 65+ you may obtain a free, non-expiring state of Illinois photo ID card. Drivers aged 75 and older are required to renew their driver's license and take a driving test at a Secretary of State Driver Services Facility. Rules of the Road Preregistration is required.

Recreation Supervisor Eilleen Gabriel-Galan is "excited to see members feeling more at ease with getting out, trying new things and sharing their program ideas. It's refreshing to see smiling faces. We value their input and it's wonderful when we see them participating in a program they've asked for such as Mindful Meditation. I can't wait to have members explore our offerings. New this Fall and based on member input we will offer Zentangle Art, Coil Basket Weaving, Health Benefits of Acupuncture, Hands Only CPR specifically geared for seniors and more."
