Schaumburg Library prepping for summer with special exhibit and Summer Challenge

Schaumburg Township District Library is ready for summer with a special exhibit at the Central Library May 20 through Sept. 12, 2022, and its Summer Challenge happening June 1 to Aug. 1, 2022.

Research from National Summer Learning Association shows many students lose reading and math skills every summer. But it's not all bad news. Their research also shows that students with high participation in voluntary summer learning programs experience benefits in math and reading skills. Enter Schaumburg Library! With a special exhibit and their Summer Challenge, the Library keeps learning fun all summer long.

This summer is all about science, technology, engineering and math at Schaumburg Township District Library. The Library is hosting a traveling exhibit from Betty Brinn Children's Museum called Thomas Edison's Secret Lab. Based on the work of Thomas Edison, and the cartoon of the same name, it's a unique, hands-on, enormous exhibit perfect for ages 2-12. Experiment with electricity and sound waves, operate simple machines, explore an interactive Periodic Table of Elements, investigate materials science, learn basic coding and more when visiting the exhibit with your family.

The Library's Summer Challenge follows the same theme of Thomas Edison's Secret Lab and invites community members of all ages to read and learn this summer. Kids can log reading and activities; teens and adults can log reading as they earn badges and work to win a prize.

Pre-registration for the Summer Challenge opens May 18, 2022, and the Summer Challenge officially begins June 1. Visit SchaumburgLibrary.org/read or call (847) 985-4000 to register or to learn more.

Thomas Edison's Secret Lab exhibit is open to visit at the Central Library May 20 through Sept. 12, 2022, during regular Library hours. The Central Library is located at 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.
