Schaumburg Library to host programs all about plants

Thanks to many requests from the community, Schaumburg Township District Library is hosting programs all about plants and gardening this spring.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, presenter Nancy Lamia of Start in Your Yard leads an online program guiding you through cultivating plants native to Illinois and identifying native plants already in your yard.

Community members can join presenter Marcia Lautanen-Raleigh to learn about unusual and exotic herbs at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, in the Central Library Rasmussen Room. This presentation will focus on uncommon herbs that can be grown in Zone 5, along with their uses and medicinal or culinary properties. Registration is open now.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, join author and presenter Dennis Paige online to learn about community eco-gardens and landscaping with native plants. Register now to receive a link to join on Zoom, or watch live on YouTube at SchaumburgLibrary.tv.

Tweens ages 9-12 can even get in on the action by creating seed bombs to plant in their yards. The seed bombs program will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the Central Library's East Entrance. Registration begins May 1.

Little ones ages 3-5 can join the library for garden-related stories and activities at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, at the Hanover Park Branch. Registration begins May 1.
