Lombard Garden Club to kick off 'Thumbs Turn Green' membership campaign

The national award-winning Lombard Garden Club invites new members to join them by launching a "Thumbs Turn Green" membership drive on Feb. 1.

Since 1926, the Lombard Garden Club has been beautifying Lombard and encouraging people to garden. They are well known for their annual Lilac Sale in Lilacia Park, which takes place before Mother's Day weekend.

Known as a friendly club, they give a warm welcome to new members. Members develop long-lasting friendships through their committee work and the convivial monthly meetings.

United by a spirit of volunteerism and a love of gardening and nature, the Lombard Garden Club is a friendly haven for gardeners.

The Lombard Garden Club has committees dedicated to conservation, historic preservation, civic projects, education programs, and many more.

They have experienced gardeners and novice gardeners in their ranks.

Through monthly educational programs from expert speakers, members learn about such topics as native plants, pollinators and pollinator gardens, invasive species, birds, raising butterflies, and more.

After many years selling and planting lilacs, the Lombard Garden Club has helped the Village of Lombard to truly embody its name, "The Lilac Village."
