Northbrook Woman's Club Foundation Continues Its Mission to Support Local Programs and Organizations

The Northbrook Woman's Club/Foundation (NWC/F) has been serving many nearby communities since 1955. NWC/F is a not-for-profit organization whose members are dedicated to supporting community needs through philanthropy and service, while fostering personal fulfillment through shared interests.

Like most organizations, the NWC /F thrives on in-person events and philanthropy, and have been working hard through the pandemic to continue the momentum of their efforts. With over 1,000 hours in community service work, some of its projects this year have included supporting domestic abuse shelters, feeding food-insecure families, delivering meals to the homebound, and providing handmade blankets to the sick and many animal shelters.

"The NWC/F is an amazing group of women, who really care about serving our community," says Susan Schueler, president of the NWC/F. "Our strong membership includes women of various ages, races, religions, backgrounds, and experience. We are an energetic group who welcome new faces. As the pandemic put some restrictions on activities, we committed ourselves to helping others through wellness checks and fellowship. Our members were still able to enjoy safe events while keeping our mission of philanthropy in focus."

Community participation helps both local business and the community. Recent "Dine and Donate" events took place at Grill House, Culver's, and Eataco, in which restaurants donated a portion of their proceeds to the NWC/F.

As is the tradition, the Annual Holiday Boutique will resume in-person on December 2 and will be held at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview. This shopping experience is open to the community and features over 15 local businesses and unique vendors offering shopping options with 25% of the proceeds returned to NWC/F. Proceeds support local programs, student scholarships, and grant funding to local non-profit organizations. Those also interested in attending the luncheon, with entertainment by Glenbrook North High School's GBN Express choral group, can register at The Northbrook Woman's Club (northbrookwomansclub.org).

To date, the NWCF has raised and donated more than $1.3 million for college scholarships and grants to local service organizations. Other organizations that have been supported through the NWC/F have included A Safe Place, The Cancer Wellness Center, Center of Enriched Living, Children's Advocacy Center, Connections for the Homeless, Family Service Center, The Glenkirk Foundation, Hunger Resource Network, Irene Josselyn Center for Mental Health, North Shore Senior Center, North Suburban YMCA, Northfield Township Pantry, and many others.
