St. Viator High School students perform free children's musical at local venues

St. Viator students will perform a free traveling children's musical at local elementary schools, libraries, museums and day care centers.

The musical, "Miss Nelson is Missing! The Musical," is directed by Megan Gray, the school's theater teacher and resident director.

The show, performed by seven advanced acting students, is part of the Arlington Heights school's new Theatre Outreach program, a theater course designed to give back to the community through performance.

The students are currently scheduled to perform 15 shows over the course of the semester.

"Everything we do at St. Viator is underscored by our Catholic values," said Gray. "This new program is a wonderful way to encourage our students to give back to the community while fostering their talent and tapping into their passion."

"Miss Nelson is Missing! The Musical" was adapted by Joan Cushing and is based on the children's book of the same name by Harry Allard and James Marshall. The family-friendly show is less than an hour long and is best suited for first- through fifth-graders.

Performances are free and all are welcome - no tickets are required. After the performance, there will be a brief talkback with the student actors. Upcoming performances include:

• Thursday, Nov. 4: 4 p.m. at Prospect Heights Library, 12 N. Elm St., Prospect Heights.

• Tuesday, Nov. 9: 3 p.m. at Kohl Children's Museum, 2100 Patriot Blvd., Glenview.

• Tuesday, Nov. 16: 3 p.m. at Kohl Children's Museum, 2100 Patriot Blvd., Glenview.

• Saturday, Dec 4: 11 a.m. at Arlington Heights Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights.

The cast features advanced acting students Claire Capra, Erin Cavender, Bridget Flood, Bree Fernandez, Olivia Tortorella, Rory Whetstone, and Abby Young.
