Northwest Festival Orchestra opens its new season Nov. 21
The Northwest Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Verne Schwager, has rescheduled its inaugural concert for the 2021-22 season. The concert will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at the Harper College Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.
Tickets are $35, $30 seniors, or $20 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling (847) 392-9003.
The orchestra and its conductor will perform accompanied by its piano soloist from Northwestern University, Lam Wong.
The ensemble will perform a selection of works, including the Fanfare from Dukas' ballet "La Peri," excerpts from Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Blumine" of Mahler from Symphony No. 1, excerpts from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25, K503. Concertgoers can expect some "surprises" from the maestro as well.
The Northwest Festival Orchestra comprises some of Chicago's finest younger professional musicians, who share a common passion for creating and sharing music at the highest level.
The ensemble's programs are devoted to both classical and contemporary repertoire spanning the orchestral spectrum, and also frequently include opera/operetta excerpts, as well as music from the American Musical Theater.
Additionally, prominent and rising younger soloists are invited to perform when they are able to reach a level of convincing performing capability and skill.
